CODE magazine and and writing/editing copy on behalf of Mary-Kate and Ashley for overseas magazine features. Despite having limited staff (one editorial assistant) and resources, I was able to maintain competitive traffic stats for mary-kateandashley.com (approx 300,000 uniques/week). Entertainment/Fashion Editor, 1995-1996
I was part of a group of recent graduates from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism to work for this pilot program of the Newhouse Newspaper Group. The company wanted to experiment with creating Internet sites using content from their local newspapers, starting with The Jersey Journal and Newark Star-Ledger. New Jersey Online initially gave us the creative freedom to write, research, and produce original content, and I thrived in the position. I created Jersey Girl, a web personality who gained a loyal following with weekly columns of "style, sass & scoop." I also created an extensive searchable store and mall database for NJO's shopping section, and managed a major redesign of the movies section and weekly entertainment guide. Back then, we were "one-man bands": I researched, reported, wrote, edited, coded pages, digitized multimedia clips, and uploaded content to our live servers. I found time to become a fashion-industry insider and gain entrance to the Seventh on Sixth fashion shows to do Internet write-ups; I also conceived, pitched, and produced a New Jersey CrimeStoppers site (featuring criminals on the most-wanted list) in conjunction with the New Jersey police department.
